Crystal Dynamics Reveal Upcoming Legacy of Kain Projects

Lost in Cult and Cook and Becker Announced Legacy of Kain Encyclopedia

Following the December 2024 release of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered, Crystal Dynamics, the renowned California-based game developer, has unveiled two new projects for the Legacy of Kain franchise. In collaboration with the UK-based creative design studio Lost In Cult and Dutch art dealership Cook and Becker, these projects promise to enrich the lore and gameplay of the series.

"We’re incredibly excited to be diving back into the world of Nosgoth with these two passion projects," said Ryan Brown of Lost In Cult. The first project, The Book of Nosgoth, is an official encyclopedia dedicated to the gothic world of Nosgoth, the central setting of the Legacy of Kain series. Written by Nic Reuben of Rock Paper Shotgun, this comprehensive guide will explore Nosgoth’s locations, factions, and inhabitants, along with a detailed timeline of the epic rivalry between Kain and Raziel.

The Book of Nosgoth will also offer behind-the-scenes insights into the development of the Legacy of Kain games, featuring original concept art, sketches, maps, and exclusive interviews with the developers. This compendium will delve into the creation of all five Legacy of Kain titles, providing a deep dive into the series’ production history.

An Official Legacy of Kain TTRPG Will Also Be Releasing Soon

The second project, Legacy of Kain: Scourge of Sarafan, is an atmospheric tabletop role-playing game set in Nosgoth during the Sarafan Order’s crusade against the vampiric scourge. Utilizing the critically acclaimed MÖRK BORG ruleset, this TTRPG promises a mechanics-light, high-stakes gameplay experience where players embody the warrior priests of the Sarafan Order.

Legacy of Kain: Scourge of Sarafan will offer six playable classes, unique weapons and spells, an official bestiary of nocturnal horrors, and the entirety of Nosgoth’s unique landscape. Players can forge their own paths in a campaign focused on vampire hunts, Nosgoth’s hidden history, and incursions into the spectral realm.
