NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued a public apology for wrongly banning numerous players using compatibility layers like those for macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck while attempting to eliminate cheaters.

Accidental Bans on Non-Windows Users

On January 3rd, NetEase's community manager acknowledged the error, stating that compatibility layer software had been incorrectly flagged as cheating software. The bans have since been lifted, and apologies issued. Players are encouraged to report actual cheating and utilize the in-game or Discord support channels for wrongful ban appeals. The Steam Deck's Proton compatibility layer is known to trigger anti-cheat systems.
Calls for Universal Character Bans

Separately, players are requesting the implementation of universal character bans. Currently, this feature is only available at Diamond rank and above, leading to frustration among lower-ranked players who feel disadvantaged. Reddit users have voiced concerns about the lack of this mechanic in lower ranks, arguing it would improve gameplay balance and allow for more strategic team building. NetEase has yet to respond to this feedback.
