Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Mysterious Switch Online Playtest
Forget your 2024 predictions; Nintendo just dropped a quirky interactive alarm clock! Meet the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, priced at $99. Alongside this unexpected release, Nintendo has also launched a secretive Switch Online playtest.
The Interactive Alarmo Alarm Clock
The Alarmo uses game sounds to rouse you from slumber, making you feel like you're waking up inside your favorite Nintendo game. Featuring sounds from titles like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with free updates promised, the Alarmo is more than just an alarm clock.
This isn't your average alarm; it's interactive! The alarm only silences when you fully leave your bed, rewarding your morning triumph with a victory fanfare. Waving your hand merely softens the sound; prolonged slumber only intensifies the alarm's urgency. Setup involves choosing a game, scene, and alarm time; the Alarmo handles the rest.
Privacy-conscious? The Alarmo employs a radio wave sensor, measuring distance and movement speed without video recording. "It can recognize subtle movements, even in dark rooms or with obstacles," explains developer Tetsuya Akama.
For a limited time, US and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members can snag the Alarmo via the My Nintendo Store before the general release. The Nintendo New York store also offers in-person purchases.
A Sneak Peek at the Switch Online Playtest
Nintendo's also announced a Switch Online playtest, accepting applications from October 10th, 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET to October 15th, 7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET. Up to 10,000 participants will be selected, prioritizing those outside Japan on a first-come, first-served basis. The playtest itself runs from October 23rd to November 5th.
