Multiple sources indicate a Thursday, January 16th, unveiling for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. This follows a pattern; the original Switch was also revealed on a Thursday in 2016. An early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.

The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for some time. Reports suggest mass production began as early as late September or early October 2024, corroborated by a surge of hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.

NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, confirmed the January 16th date on his January 13th podcast, citing anonymous sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of using Thursdays for major announcements. Tom Warren of The Verge independently corroborated this information.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

Whether Nintendo will precede the main reveal with a teaser, mirroring their 2017 strategy, remains to be seen. However, given the extensive leaks over the past months – including Nintendo's unusual acknowledgment of a replica console – many details are already widely known. These leaks suggest a slightly larger console (270 x 116 x 14mm) than the Switch OLED, featuring an 8-inch LCD screen and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con may include a new "C" button, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.

Launch Title Lineup Remains Unclear

While the console itself is largely anticipated, the launch game lineup remains a mystery. Games like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed for the Switch 2, but a day-one release for either is unlikely. Nintendo will likely prioritize one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
