During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting special features. These games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers unique enhancements. The presentation kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is getting a feature called "Jamboree TV." This upgrade introduces mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and innovative gameplay using a new camera accessory.
Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will benefit from improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these titles will integrate with a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service features voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also set for upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR support. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enjoy better resolution and framerates.
All these upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby can purchase upgrade packs to enhance their existing copies for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.
Nintendo teased these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a footnote on a webpage about the newly announced Virtual Game Card system, which clarified that these enhanced editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
