Bethesda has surprised fans with the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but the excitement is tempered by the announcement that the game will not feature official mod support. Dive in to discover more about the game's presence in the modding community and its immediate success following its surprise launch.
In a recent official reveal livestream, Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available for eager fans. The developers highlighted the game's significant enhancements over the original version. However, a notable absence of official mod support has left many enthusiasts disappointed.
According to Bethesda's support page, Oblivion Remastered will not include official modding capabilities. No specific reason was provided for this decision, which is surprising given Bethesda's long-standing support for modding communities. They have historically released official modding tools, such as the Creation Kits for Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield.
Despite the lack of official support, the community remains undeterred. Fans are already experimenting with the old Creation Kit from the original game, and reports suggest that mods are currently functioning well with the remaster. On platforms like Reddit, modders are actively discussing strategies to adapt to the remaster, which now operates on Unreal Engine 5.
The absence of official mod support hasn't stopped fans from exploring Oblivion Remastered in virtual reality (VR). Just three hours after the game's launch, players began experimenting with UEVR, a mod tool designed to adapt games for VR play. YouTuber LunchAndVR shared a video showcasing early tests of Oblivion Remastered in VR, utilizing UEVR and motion controls.
The footage indicates promising performance, with the game running smoothly at 70 fps on a setup featuring medium graphics settings, DLSS enabled, a GeForce RTX 4090, an Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB of RAM. This suggests that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a robust VR experience.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (and included in Xbox Game Pass), and PC. To keep up with the latest updates on the game, be sure to check out our detailed article below!
