PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered issues following an unanticipated update released today, but Bethesda has assured fans that a solution is forthcoming.
Players were surprised to discover that Virtuos' expansive re-release of Oblivion received an unexpected update earlier today. Without any patch notes or explanation regarding the update's purpose, many continued their gaming sessions as usual. However, some quickly realized that the first update for Oblivion Remastered was creating more problems than it solved.
Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the games first weekend?!!?

A Reddit user highlighted the issue: "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to 'off' and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"
While some players have not experienced significant performance changes, others are facing new challenges with reduced framerates. Many have reported that the upscaling options have been entirely disabled, causing significant visual problems just before Oblivion Remastered's first weekend.
Bethesda has attempted to address these concerns with a post on its official support page. The post clarified that today's update for Oblivion Remastered included "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." Unfortunately, it seems that those who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are primarily affected, particularly with their upscaling and anti-aliasing settings.
"Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally," Bethesda explained. "However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."
Currently, there is no definitive timeline for when a fix for this unintended hotfix will be available. Meanwhile, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S can continue playing without issues.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was re-released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S earlier this week.
