Overwatch 2 Stadium Summer Roadmap Revealed by Blizzard

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed an exciting roadmap for *Overwatch 2*'s Stadium mode for 2025, detailing new heroes and features set to be introduced in Season 17, Season 18, Season 19, and beyond. Game director Aaron Keller shared these updates in a comprehensive Director’s Take blog post, providing a glimpse into the mode's past, present, and future. This roadmap arrives shortly after Stadium's launch, and Keller also discussed its origin and initial performance.

The rollout of Stadium continues with the introduction of the new Damage hero, Freja, during a mid-season patch in Season 16. However, it's Season 17 in June that promises to elevate the experience significantly. At this time, Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta will join the playable roster, accompanied by the Esperança Push map and Samoa Control map. Blizzard plans to enhance Stadium further with features like Unranked Crossplay, new all-star rewards, custom games, additional example builds, and the ability to save and share builds. While it's uncertain whether all these heroes and features will be available at the start of Season 17 or staggered throughout the season, the additions are set to enrich the strategic gameplay.

Season 18 will see the addition of Winston, Sojourn, and Brigitte to the playable characters, along with the Route 66 and London maps. A new Payload Race game mode will be introduced, complete with two new maps, a Stadium trials feature, and the ability to Endorse teammates. Looking further ahead, Season 19 and beyond will introduce a new China map, a Draft Mode, consumables, and tweaks to the item system, ensuring continuous evolution and excitement for players.

How has Stadium Performed so Far?

The Overwatch 2 team has released impressive statistics about Stadium's performance since its launch. It has quickly become the most played mode in *Overwatch 2*, surpassing Quick Play and Competitive with 2.3 million matches played and 7.8 million hours spent during its launch week alone. This represents a significant increase compared to the launch week of Overwatch Classic. Notably, Lucio stands out with the highest win rate and the lowest pick rate, while players have spent a staggering 900 billion Stadium Cash on 206 million items for their builds.

Keller's blog post also clarified that Stadium was in development before *Overwatch 2* launched, dispelling any theories that it was created in response to *Marvel Rivals*, which debuted in December 2024. He emphasized Blizzard's commitment to transparent communication, promising more insights into Stadium next week. While Stadium has garnered immense popularity, Keller reassured players that Blizzard remains dedicated to maintaining the core experiences of Quick Play and Competitive modes.

"Before signing off, I'd like to reiterate the team’s commitment to the Core modes of Overwatch," Keller stated. "We’re still pouring as much time, energy, and passion into these as we always have. Stadium isn't competing for those resources: it’s giving us more opportunities to deliver Overwatch in a new, exciting way. We can't wait for you to see what's coming there, especially Season 18. Stadium was introduced to *Overwatch 2* with the launch of Season 16 last week as part of Blizzard's efforts to revitalize its player base.
