"Overwatch Mobile: Nexon and Blizzard Sign New Deal"

by Owen May 15,2025

The possibility of Overwatch coming to mobile devices has long been a topic of speculation among fans, especially after reports that a mobile version was shelved. However, a recent deal between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard might just breathe new life into these hopes.

The primary focus of this deal is the acquisition of publishing and development rights for a new entry in the legendary StarCraft real-time strategy (RTS) franchise. The competition for these rights was intense, with other notable companies like Krafton and Netmarble also vying for the opportunity. Should the deal be confirmed, it would place Nexon at the helm of future StarCraft releases, marking a significant development for the series.

What's stirring even more excitement and curiosity is the revelation that the bidding also involved rights for an Overwatch mobile game. This suggests that the mobile version is far from dead and could potentially be an official sequel in the form of a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game.

Nerf thisThis wouldn't mark the first time Overwatch has ventured into the MOBA genre; fans might recall Blizzard's earlier efforts with Heroes of the Storm, which was heavily promoted by the company. There's a possibility that the proposed Overwatch MOBA could be a mobile version of Heroes of the Storm. Alternatively, it could be an entirely new spin-off, although the notion of it being branded as 'Overwatch 3' seems highly unlikely, given the franchise's traditional focus on console and PC platforms.

Embracing the MOBA genre could be a strategic move for Overwatch, especially with new competitors like Marvel Rivals emerging on the scene. This could be the perfect opportunity for Blizzard and their publishing partners to take bold steps to revitalize and expand the Overwatch universe.
