Even before its official announcement, many observers criticized "Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" for its dated visuals, resembling a PlayStation 3-era licensed title or a typical mobile game. Despite this initial negativity, some remained optimistic, hoping for a positive surprise, especially given the scarcity of compelling games based on the popular series.
The recent Steam Next Fest demo, however, has silenced any remaining debate. The game is undeniably underwhelming.
Players have largely condemned "Kingsroad" across the board, citing outdated combat mechanics, poor graphics, and numerous design choices strongly suggestive of a mobile game origin. Many even label it a simple port, though even if not, its visuals and gameplay feel distinctly reminiscent of a 2010-era title.
While some positive reviews exist on the Steam demo page, many share a strikingly similar, almost suspiciously enthusiastic tone: "I really enjoyed the demo, looking forward to the full release." Whether these are automated reviews or reflect the persistent optimism of early supporters remains uncertain.
"Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" is slated for release on PC (Steam) and mobile devices, though a firm release date is yet to be announced.
