Sony has announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which was launched less than three years ago. As of today, the program is no longer accepting new members. Current members who choose to cancel their membership will be unable to rejoin, and their reward points will be permanently deleted upon cancellation.
Existing members can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026, to redeem their remaining balance. Despite the program's end, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles, such as the 3D digital model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead, will remain accessible for the foreseeable future.
In a statement on the PlayStation blog, Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, explained the decision. "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," she said. "Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."
No replacement for the scheme was mentioned, leaving it unclear what specific insights Sony gained from running PlayStation Stars.

PlayStation Stars was introduced in July 2022 to reward PS5 owners with points that held real cash value. Points could be earned through spending in the PlayStation Store, as well as completing various tasks such as surveys, trying out different games, or exploring system features. The program served as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, although both schemes have seen adjustments over time to become less lucrative.
Last summer, PlayStation Stars was unavailable for a month. In October, Sony made several changes to the program, including reducing the points expiration period from 24 to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus membership from points-eligible purchases. Now, the entire program is being phased out.
