Select Button, the original developer of Pokémon Sleep, is handing over the reins to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon subsidiary. This change marks a significant shift in the game's ongoing development and future updates.
Launched in March, Pokémon Works has quickly become a key player in the Pokémon universe. The recent announcement within the Japanese Pokémon Sleep app confirms their takeover of development and future updates from Select Button.
The in-app announcement (machine-translated) states that development and operation will gradually transition from Select Button to Pokémon Works. The impact on the global version of Pokémon Sleep remains unclear, as this news hasn't yet appeared in the global app's news section.
Pokémon Works' current projects are still largely unknown. However, their website reveals that the company is a collaborative venture between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd. Furthermore, they share a Tokyo office with ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and a contributor to Pokémon HOME, a project to which Pokémon Works also contributed.
While their Pokémon-related experience is currently limited, Pokémon Works aims to “create an experience that makes Pokémon more real… so that everyone can enjoy meeting and adventuring with Pokémon.” Their vision for Pokémon Sleep’s future remains to be seen.
