Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket players are discovering delightful hidden details in the game's card art, connecting the illustrations to the beloved Game Boy games. The revelation began when Reddit user asch_win noticed that the Spearow card features landmarks resembling Celadon City Department Store and Route 16 from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
This intentional nod to the franchise's origins sparked a community-wide investigation. Reddit user jteede uncovered further connections, including a Diglett card near Vermillion City and a Haunter card by Lavender Town's tower. Asch_win also identified location references on several Supporter cards.
Many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings, some even mirroring real-world collectible cards. However, others, like the hidden references, are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, adding a layer of depth and rewarding exploration for players.
The weekend saw players meticulously examining cards, unearthing more Easter eggs. A Gyarados full art card seemingly features the S.S. Anne, while Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards appear to depict a scene from FireRed and LeafGreen's seaside Snorlax encounter.
Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. With more expansions planned and occasional additions via Wonder Pick Events, players are encouraged to continue searching for these hidden gems. The current Wonder Pick event features Charmander and Squirtle, and ongoing debate surrounds whether pack choice influences card rarity.
