In Project Zomboid, securing your shelter goes beyond just finding a location; it's about fortifying it against the undead hordes. One fundamental defense is barricading windows. This guide details how to effectively board up your windows and enhance your base's security.
To barricade a window, gather these essential items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have them, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations. Wooden planks are commonly found on construction sites, or can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) in a pinch. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access compared to unguarded windows. The more planks added, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove," requiring a claw hammer or crowbar.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot effectively block windows; characters and zombies will pass through them. While not ideal for window protection, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior arrangement.
While wooden planks provide a basic defense, stronger barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
