The visual novel genre, while popular on PC, has seen limited representation on mobile platforms, with notable exceptions like the Methods series. This could be due to a bias against the genre among Western gamers or a lack of interest from publishers who traditionally focus on PC releases. However, Seedsow Lullaby is poised to challenge this trend with its upcoming release on May 1st for iOS and Android.
Seedsow Lullaby might initially confuse fans of the genre as it features no choices or branching paths—a staple of visual novels. Yet, its unique premise could be compelling enough to captivate players. The story follows high schooler Misuzu, who, on her sixteenth birthday, encounters a younger version of her deceased mother. Together, they must embark on a journey through a mythical landscape to conduct the Seedsow Ceremony, aiming to usher in the rebirth of the gods. They are joined by Misuzu's future daughter, adding a layer of complexity to their mission.
Time travel is not uncommon in visual novels; iconic titles like Steins;Gate have set benchmarks with their intricate use of alternative timelines and branching narratives. However, Seedsow Lullaby promises a more straightforward approach to the concept. While this might deter some fans, the exploration of themes such as life, death, and the certainty of the future is likely to provide a thought-provoking plot.
Keep an eye out for the international release of Seedsow Lullaby. In the meantime, if you're looking for something to play, check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week.
