Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It

Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast and a teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the official Sonic Movie account shared a before-and-after of Sonic's own design evolution, subtly suggesting Shrek take notes.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie generated mixed reactions, with fans focusing on the character's unconventional design. Following the criticism, director Jeff Fowler redesigned Sonic, resulting in a much more favorably received version.

While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely negative as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful TikTok post has amused fans. Comments included expressions of surprise and amusement at the unexpected advice.

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, in 2023, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving the Minions 3 release to its original slot.
