EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a delightful surprise for fans. As of today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are once again available on PC through two Legacy Collections and the enticing The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA has announced the launch of The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, both of which are now available for purchase on PC. You can buy them separately or together in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for a special price of $40.
These collections come packed with all the expansions and nearly all the stuff packs. However, it's worth noting that The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is missing the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008. Despite this small omission, you'll find everything else included. Both collections also feature bonus content, with The Sims 1 including the Throwback Fit Kit and The Sims 2 boasting the Grunge Revival Kit, enhancing your gameplay experience with these extra add-ons.
The re-release of these classic games marks the first time in over a decade that both titles have been easily accessible. The Sims 1, previously only available on disc, has been out of reach unless you managed to find an old physical copy and get it running on a modern Windows machine. The Sims 2, although re-released in 2014 as the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, was also taken down, leaving fans unable to access it unless they owned a physical disc. With these new collections, all four The Sims games are now readily available for purchase and play through digital storefronts.
When we first reviewed them, we gave The Sims 1 a stellar 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 a solid 8.5/10. While the series has since introduced numerous new features and refined gameplay, the original games remain a joy to explore for their quirky charm, straightforward gameplay, challenging elements, and historical significance.
You can now find The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection available for purchase on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
