Skate Expands Playtesting to Include Console Players

Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtests for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Begin

Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." title, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying playtests since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years.

The last mainline Skate game, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise. However, persistent fan support, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, finally led to the creation of a dedicated development studio and the announcement of "skate." Initially slated for early access in 2025, these console playtests represent significant progress.

Via the official "skate." Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation players can now participate in the playtest via the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A recent video featuring developers confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement. Specific gameplay details, such as the rumored improved replay editor, remain undisclosed.

EA has confirmed "skate." will be a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by San Vanelona, Port Carverton, and real-world locations. While a map leaked in 2023, its current state remains unknown. Fans can register for the playtest or patiently await the game's wider release.

Alternative Skateboarding Experiences

While "skate." is targeting an early access launch in 2025 (with the usual caveats regarding potential delays), several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable gameplay in the interim.
