Ubisoft is setting the sails for an exciting Year 2 of Skull and Bones, aiming to make the pirate multiplayer game more thrilling than ever with a slew of major content updates. These include new game modes, ships, the legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat feature that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that steals the spotlight with the introduction of land combat. Set to debut this fall, this new feature will finally allow players to take the action from the sea to the land, engaging in swordfights and using firearms against opponents. This is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what's to come, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see the full implementation.
While land combat is undoubtedly the most significant addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a wealth of other content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving in the summer of 2025, will bring Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, will introduce the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If the upcoming content sounds tempting, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This is the perfect opportunity for players to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand and take advantage of a special, yet-to-be-announced discount on the game.
Skull and Bones originally set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
