Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing solely on PlayStation 5 titles. This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, means PS4 games will only occasionally be offered. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will stay accessible until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasizes its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, highlighting continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company's focus on PS5 reflects the growing player base using the newer console and their preference for PS5 titles.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony cites a player shift towards PS5 games as the reason for this change. While the future placement of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog remains unconfirmed, further announcements are expected closer to the transition date.
