"Switch 2 Exclusive: The Duskbloods' Hub Keeper - A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"

by Bella May 04,2025

FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about its newly announced exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique transformation in the design of the keeper of the hub area, introducing a character with a distinctly cute aesthetic.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with a captivating shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This intriguing character is set to serve as the hub companion in The Duskbloods.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on the character's role in an interview with Nintendo, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further explained the inspiration behind the character, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When asked to clarify what he meant by "Nintendo-esque," Miyazaki added with a chuckle, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's tradition of featuring central hub characters, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who offer crucial guidance and power throughout the player's journey, continues with this new game. However, with The Duskbloods being a PvPvE game, the nature of the guidance provided by the winged rat remains a mystery. Miyazaki hinted at the team's exploration of "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should brace for surprises when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
