Switch Lite 2 Allegedly Features Massive Storage Upgrade

Leaked GameStop SKUs Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Support microSD Express Cards

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will boast significantly improved storage capabilities, utilizing microSD Express cards. This represents a substantial upgrade from the UHS-I standard used in the original Switch.

The leak, originating from Reddit user Opposite-Chemistry96, showcases GameStop SKUs for "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" accessories in 256GB and 512GB capacities. This points towards the adoption of the microSD Express standard, offering dramatically faster transfer speeds and higher storage capacities.

A Quantum Leap in Transfer Speeds

The current Switch utilizes UHS-I microSD cards, achieving practical transfer speeds around 95 MB/s. In contrast, microSD Express, leveraging the NVMe protocol, promises speeds nearing 985 MB/s—a remarkable 900% increase. This improvement stems from the highly parallel data transfer capabilities of NVMe, a technology also found in high-performance SSDs.

Capacity Enhancements

The difference in maximum capacity is equally impressive. While UHS-I cards top out at 2TB, microSD Express cards can reach up to 128TB—a staggering 6,300% improvement.

Pricing and Additional Leaks

GameStop's internal system, as seen in the leak, lists the 256GB Switch 2 microSD Express card at $49.99 and the 512GB version at $84.99. Further leaks reveal SKUs for a standard Switch 2 carrying case ($19.99) and two "deluxe" cases ($29.99).

While these accessories are likely unofficial, their appearance reinforces the ongoing wave of Switch 2 leaks. Nintendo has previously stated its intention to unveil the new console before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025), leaving a limited window for an official announcement.

Comparison Table: UHS-I vs. microSD Express

Feature UHS-I microSD Express
Transfer Speed ~95 MB/s ~985 MB/s
Max Capacity 2TB 128TB

The leaked information strongly suggests the Switch 2 will offer a significant upgrade in storage technology, promising faster loading times and the ability to store significantly more game data.
