In a recent interview with Wccftech, Eclipse Glow Games, the developers behind Tides of Annihilation, revealed the intriguing reasoning behind their choice of Arthurian myths and a London setting. Let's delve into the game's concept and future plans.

At Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games spoke with Wccftech, discussing Tides of Annihilation's core concept, gameplay, and potential for an anthology. The developers, based in China, explained their choice of a Western setting: Tencent, their financial backers, had different expectations for this project compared to Black Myth: Wukong. While Wukong targeted the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was envisioned for a Western audience, leading to the selection of Arthurian legends. The game's producer conceived the central concept around knights, eventually evolving into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
The game unfolds in a post-apocalyptic, modern-day London, devastated by an Outworld invasion. Gwendolyn, the sole human survivor, navigates this alternate reality, encountering fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.

Tides of Annihilation's combat system, clearly reminiscent of Devil May Cry, has been acknowledged by the developers. They describe it as "definitely more like Devil May Cry," but with adjustable difficulty settings to broaden accessibility. The controls are designed to be intuitive, welcoming both seasoned action-game players and newcomers.
Players can customize their combat style through diverse playstyles, selecting from four weapons and over ten Knights as allies. Gwendolyn's ability to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table adds a unique strategic layer to the gameplay as she explores ruined London to uncover the truth behind the invasion. With over 30 bosses boasting unique abilities, players are promised challenging and engaging encounters. "Players will have to prepare for very challenging boss fights," the developers emphasized.

Eclipse Glow Games also hinted at the potential for a franchise expansion, envisioning future titles with different settings, mythologies, and protagonists. However, they plan to retain the core concept of the Outworld invasion. The success of Tides of Annihilation will be crucial in determining the future of this potential anthology.
Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation aims for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will follow Gwendolyn as she confronts destiny and fights to save not only London, but the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
