World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a festive in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's celebration is enhanced by a collaborative lore video produced with PlatinumWoW, offering a deep dive into the holiday's rich history.

The video explores the event's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths featuring Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant—and the Tauren's traditions of reflection and gratitude towards the Earthmother. The humorous evolution of Winter Veil's commercialization by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures is also highlighted, drawing parallels to real-world Christmas traditions.

A Hilarious History of Metzen the Reindeer

No Winter Veil lore would be complete without the infamous Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. The video recounts the reindeer's three comical kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a fittingly humorous thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).

A Fruitful Collaboration

This collaboration marks another successful partnership between World of Warcraft and PlatinumWoW, following previous lore videos on subjects ranging from Nerubians and Vrykul to World Trees and Blackrock Depths. Blizzard's recent embrace of content creator collaborations, including those with Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, significantly enriches the World of Warcraft experience.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, the Grunch pet, and a surprise gift awaiting under the virtual tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind.
