Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents numerous boss encounters, but your first formidable opponent will be Dularn, The Creeping Shadow. This initial boss fight often proves a significant challenge, representing a noticeable difficulty spike for many players.
He's the first true test of skill, and it's entirely understandable if it requires several attempts to overcome him. However, once you learn his attack patterns, this battle becomes significantly shorter.
The fight begins with Dularn enshrouded in a protective barrier. You cannot damage him during this phase; your focus is solely on evasion until the barrier dissipates. Once the barrier drops, you'll have a brief window to inflict damage. Dularn's health varies based on the difficulty setting. While you can retreat to regain strength, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.
Avoid proximity to Dularn while his barrier is active, as contact will inflict damage. Attempting to attack during this phase will likely result in defeat.
Dularn summons multiple swords to attack. These attacks follow distinct patterns:
These homing projectiles can be tricky. The best strategy while the barrier is up is to maintain a wide circular movement around Dularn. This provides ample space to dodge the first two sword attacks. However, depending on their trajectory, some swords might still pose a threat. Always incorporate jumping as a secondary evasion technique. For the straight line attack, a well-timed jump just before impact is crucial.
When Dularn's barrier falls, he's vulnerable. After each barrage of damage, he teleports. Upon reappearance, maintain distance, as he'll immediately reinstate the barrier and inflict damage if you're too close.
Dularn utilizes two projectile attacks: fireballs and an arching slash.
Evade the fireballs by strategically moving between them or jumping over incoming projectiles. Combine movement with jumping for maximum effectiveness.
This large blue slash is unavoidable except by jumping over it. This attack often occurs near the window for dealing damage, serving as a signal to launch your attack.
Mastering Dularn's attack patterns is key to victory; grinding for higher levels isn't necessary.
Defeating Dularn grants access to the Ignis Bracelet, a magical bracelet allowing you to throw fireballs, a valuable addition to your arsenal.
