Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana cleverly introduces bosses, teaching players to master its mechanics through progressive challenges. While not overly lengthy, the game presents a satisfying array of boss encounters.
Initially, players might need some guidance, but Gyalva, Lord of the Blazing Prison, demands a solid understanding of combat, abilities, and game mechanics.
Following the defeat of Guilen, The Fire Eater, players progress through the Zone of Lava to face Gyalva. Strategically positioning yourself at either end of the bridge significantly simplifies this fight.
Unlike previous encounters, movement is severely restricted, with the bridge platforms constantly disrupted by Gyalva's attacks. The key is to repeatedly jump to Gyalva, utilizing wind magic to maximize damage output within short bursts.
The Ys franchise consistently ranks among Nihon Falcom's finest, and conquering bosses like Gyalva provides a truly rewarding experience.
While a remake of Ys 3 and part of a larger narrative, Gyalva is a new boss addition. This formidable opponent possesses a range of attacks that, while individually straightforward, can quickly overwhelm unprepared players. Gyalva will move across the bridge, often launching sections into the air with fiery attacks.
Significant character upgrades are recommended before attempting this fight. Aim for at least level 21 by consistently defeating minor enemies. This will significantly improve your chances of success.
Gyalva employs two variations of spinning attacks. The first affects a portion of the bridge, sending impacted platforms airborne. The second involves a full bridge traversal, similarly disrupting the platforms. Both attacks inflict substantial damage to under-leveled players.
To counter the first, quickly move to either side of the affected area. For the second, the only safe position is on one of the bridge's end ledges. Staying close to a side allows for a safe retreat to the ledge.
Avoid the very edge of the bridge to prevent being cornered. Instead, strategically move along the bridge to attack Gyalva before retreating to the nearest ledge.
Gyalva launches fireballs onto the bridge, propelling platforms upwards. While this causes damage, it also presents an opportunity to land several attacks.
Torches along the bridge periodically erupt in flames, accompanied by a fireball traveling between them. These bursts inflict damage, making it crucial to avoid them. Timing is key; wait for the burst to end before moving through the affected area.
