Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Captain America series with a fresh creative team and a captivating new storyline. This exciting reboot will delve into Steve Rogers' earliest days after his revival from suspended animation, offering a unique perspective on the iconic hero. A highlight? The series will chronicle Captain America's very first encounter with the formidable Doctor Doom.
The creative powerhouse behind this new chapter includes writer Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and artist Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The story begins shortly after Steve Rogers' rediscovery and thawing into the modern Marvel Universe. His first mission back in the US Army? A thrilling infiltration of Latveria, recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom, alongside the legendary Howling Commandos. While the series will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel events, this initial arc will lay the groundwork for Zdarsky and Schiti's ongoing narrative, with lasting consequences.
"I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades," Zdarsky shared. "I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early days in the modern era with a twist that I think will really surprise readers! I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible art!"
He continued, "I've approached this title like my Daredevil run, really trying to get inside Cap's head, offering a grounded, human portrayal of who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers represents the best of us, and I want that to shine through on every page."
Schiti added, "Captain America is one of my all-time favorites. I'm excited to reunite with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after our amazing experience on Marvel 2-In-One. We're crafting a story that perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment! But what's most surprising is how much I found myself focusing on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."
He further explained, "Chip's script is so clever and compelling; I'm confident readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's a man who became the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought a war against Nazism, 'died' in that war, and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, and considering the timeline, he's only in his late twenties in the era we're exploring!"
Captain America #1 will be released on July 2, 2025.
