If you're a fan of the robot role-playing series, you might be excited to hear about the new bullet heaven action game, Medabot Survivors. However, there's a catch—it's currently only available in Japan for iOS and Android devices. Set to launch on February 10th, this latest addition to the Medabots franchise brings the beloved series back to mobile platforms, but unfortunately, it's a Japan-exclusive release for now.
As reported by Gematsu, Medabots might ring a bell for those of us who grew up during the post-Pokémon boom. In the wake of Pokémon's massive success, there was a rush to introduce various Japanese franchises with merchandising potential to Western audiences. While Digimon gained significant popularity (and some might argue it even surpassed Pokémon), Medabots never quite achieved the same level of recognition outside of Japan.
In its home country, however, Medabots has enjoyed considerable success, cementing itself as a major franchise. It's no surprise then that the series is now venturing into the Survivors-like genre with Medabot Survivors. Although this game is currently exclusive to Japan, it's an exciting development for fans and a testament to the growing popularity of the genre worldwide.
Surviving survivors—It's worth noting that the Survivors-like genre predates the popular game Vampire Survivors. The release of Medabot Survivors not only excites fans but also highlights the genre's expanding influence globally. Having gained some insight into the Japanese gaming scene, I can confirm there are numerous fantastic releases that might never reach international markets. Here's hoping that if Medabot Survivors proves to be a hit, it might eventually make its way to fans worldwide.
In the meantime, if you're eager to explore other upcoming releases that you can play right now, check out our latest feature in Ahead of the Game, where Catherine Dellosa delves into the enchanting world of Cat Restaurant.
