Exciting news has surfaced for fans of the iconic Assassin's Creed franchise: rumors suggest that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, one of the most beloved entries in Ubisoft's long-running series, could be getting a modern remake. Known for its thrilling pirate theme and the expansive, picturesque Caribbean setting, Black Flag seamlessly blends classic Assassin's Creed stealth and action gameplay. Given that it's been nearly 12 years since its initial release, a remake leveraging today's advanced hardware is an enticing prospect for many fans.
Speculation about a Black Flag remake has been circulating for some time. Earlier reports hinted at a potential release this year, but it seems to have been delayed, possibly due to the shifting schedule of Assassin's Creed Shadows. While Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm the Black Flag remake, new leaks have provided intriguing details about the project.
According to a report by MP1st, which cited a developer's site, the Black Flag remake is set to be built on the Anvil Engine. This remake aims to go beyond mere graphical updates by introducing new combat mechanics and enriched ecosystems centered around wildlife. These enhancements suggest that Ubisoft is planning a more ambitious project than many might have anticipated.
The same source, MP1st, also uncovered details about another rumored remake, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. It's said to feature enhanced combat inspired by Soulslike games, including a new blocking system, alongside improvements in stamina, stealth, and archery. Fans had hoped for an announcement at the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, but their expectations were unmet.
Currently, the timeline for announcing both the Black Flag and Oblivion remakes remains uncertain. Ubisoft's immediate focus is on Assassin's Creed Shadows, which has faced another delay, moving its release from February 2025 to March 2025. Plans for post-launch expansions for Shadows are also in place. Once these are addressed, it's reasonable to speculate that Ubisoft might turn its attention to promoting the Black Flag remake, potentially targeting a 2026 launch. However, these are all based on leaks and rumors, so fans should remain cautiously optimistic until Ubisoft officially confirms the project.
