Avowed has been compared to both Skyrim and Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds, but one key difference is its lack of multiplayer functionality. Contrary to some initial expectations, Avowed is strictly a single-player experience. There's no co-op mode, no PvP battles, and no player invasion features. While companions will assist you, they remain non-player characters (NPCs), mirroring the structure of The Outer Worlds.

Initially, Obsidian Entertainment had planned to include co-op features, even using it as a marketing point for investors. However, this aspect was cut during development, with the studio citing a focus on other priorities. Despite the absence of multiplayer, Avowed's single-player experience remains robust and immersive.

The possibility of a community-created co-op mod exists, although none have yet surfaced. Creating such a mod would be a significant undertaking, and Obsidian has confirmed they have no plans to add official multiplayer support post-launch. Therefore, players should anticipate a fully solo adventure in Avowed.
