Treyarch Unveils "The Tomb," a New Map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, in 115 Day Celebration
Treyarch is celebrating 115 Day with a flurry of announcements for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, including the highly anticipated reveal of a new map: The Tomb. This annual January 15th event brings a comprehensive blog post detailing upcoming zombie-themed surprises.
The highlight is undoubtedly The Tomb, a desert-themed map launching with Season 2 on January 28th. This follows Season 1's Citadelle des Morts, adding another thrilling location to the Zombies universe in less than two weeks.
Treyarch's narrative summary reveals that Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya, following Gabriel Krafft's final instructions, investigate an excavation site to secure the Sentinel Artifact. The site, ancient catacombs dating back to 2500 B.C.E., remained undisturbed until the early 1900s, hinting at a deeper mystery.
While details are scarce, The Tomb's connection to a British archaeologist, Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe, is teased. Gameplay-wise, it promises a similar experience to Liberty Falls—a compact map prioritizing replayability and hidden Easter eggs.
Season 2 also introduces a reimagined Wonder Weapon drawing inspiration from previous titles, and the return of a classic SMG. Further details on these additions remain shrouded in mystery.
Significant quality-of-life improvements are also slated for Season 2, addressing long-standing community requests. These include increased tracking capabilities for Calling Card and Camo challenges (up to 10 each in Zombies and Multiplayer), a co-op pause option for Zombies, and the ability to rejoin Zombies matches with your loadout after disconnection. Separate HUD presets for Zombies and Multiplayer will also be implemented.
To commemorate 115 Day, players can enjoy double GobbleGum earn rates and double XP for players, weapons, and the battle pass until 10 AM PT on January 21st. Data on the story-driven Directed Mode reveals over 480 million hours played, with the average Main Quest completion rate more than doubling since its launch.
The team notes that Directed Mode aimed to expand the Zombies community by guiding new players through the Main Quests, resulting in a significant increase in completion rates.
The upcoming release of The Tomb will also bring renewed focus to the voice acting in Zombies mode, following Activision's recent announcement regarding character recasting amidst the SAG-AFTRA strike.
For those diving into Zombies, helpful resources include essential tips and tricks, an exfiltration guide, and detailed walkthroughs for Terminus and Liberty Falls, covering Easter eggs, secrets, Pack-a-Punch strategies, and the Meteor Easter egg.
