Borderlands 4 builds upon the franchise's signature expansive arsenal with exciting refinements. Discover how the revamped weapon manufacturer system works and how players can unlock a limited-edition free skin.

The Borderlands franchise's defining weapon crafting system receives significant upgrades in Borderlands 4. Executive Producer Chris Brock revealed to GamesRadar+ that while Borderlands 3's weapon mechanics were impressive, the sequel introduces greater randomization and personalization.
"Our existing gun system delivers, but these new improvements create more unexpected discoveries," Brock explained. He highlighted Borderlands 4's innovative "licensed parts" system, allowing weapon attributes from different manufacturers to combine unexpectedly.
Borderlands revolutionized loot systems with distinctive manufacturer traits that help players quickly identify weapon strengths and behaviors - a tradition continuing in the new installment.

Three fresh manufacturers join the roster: Order, Ripper, and Daedalus. Familiar brands like Jakobs, Maliwan, and Vladof return, while others like COV and Hyperion exit following narrative developments in previous games.
After Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands featured over a billion guns, Gearbox prioritizes smarter weapon diversity. Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson told GamesRadar+ on February 1 about their design philosophy: "We're constantly expanding weapon types, manufacturers, legendary gear, and customization options. Borderlands 4 will offer billions of collectible weapons and attachments."

Before launch, players can secure an exclusive Hazard Pay weapon skin through Borderlands' SHiFT rewards program. The June 28 Steam announcement detailed how newsletter subscribers will receive this bonus digital item.
To claim the skin, players must link their SHiFT account to their gaming platform and log in at launch. Subscribers may also receive additional SHiFT code rewards through promotional emails.

Despite recent controversy regarding the CEO's pricing remarks, Borderlands 4 development continues with promised features like post-launch photo mode and its trademark humor balancing the gritty setting.
Borderlands 4 launches September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates as release approaches.
