After just a year on the market, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is facing an unexpected shutdown. Activision has announced that the mobile version of the popular battle royale game will no longer receive seasonal updates or new content. As of May 18th, the game has been removed from both the App Store and Google Play Store. Real-money purchases are now disabled, and if you haven't downloaded the app by the specified date, you'll miss out on the opportunity to play it entirely.
This abrupt closure marks the end of what was intended to be a significant mobile expansion of the Warzone universe. Despite Activision's pride in how closely the mobile version mirrored the original Warzone experience on handheld devices, it seems the game did not resonate with mobile gamers as effectively as its console and PC counterparts.
For those who have the game installed, online access will remain available after May 19th. You can continue to play and engage in matchmaking, but be aware that social features will be turned off. There is no set date yet for when the servers will shut down completely. The in-game store will stay open, but only for spending existing COD Points—no new purchases can be made.
As a gesture of goodwill, players can transfer their unused COD Points to Call of Duty: Mobile. Until August 15th, if you log into Call of Duty: Mobile with your same Activision account, you'll receive double the value of your remaining Warzone Mobile COD Points, plus additional rewards.
For anyone who hasn't installed or reinstalled Warzone Mobile by May 19th, this is your final chance. Post-deadline, no refunds will be provided, and the game will become inaccessible. This development serves as a stark reminder that even the most prominent franchises can struggle to maintain long-term success on mobile platforms.
