Developed by PlaySide Studios, the team behind acclaimed VR titles such as The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds, Civilization 7 - VR aims to revolutionize the way players interact with the beloved strategy game. Here's the official description:

In Civilization 7 - VR, the world of Civilization comes alive in a way that's never been experienced before. Players can explore a detailed map on a Command Table, zooming in to appreciate the intricacies of buildings and units, much like a tabletop game. Engage directly with iconic world leaders around the Command Table, where your diplomatic choices—from forging alliances to declaring war—shape the course of history through the Ages.

Civilization 7 - VR offers both immersive virtual reality and mixed reality modes, allowing seamless transitions between the two. In virtual reality, players find themselves in a majestic museum, overseeing a personalized vista as their chosen leader. In mixed reality, the Command Table integrates with your physical space, enhancing the gameplay experience. The Archives, a dedicated room within your virtual museum, showcases detailed dioramas of your achievements in both VR and mixed reality. Beyond single-player, Civilization 7 - VR supports online multiplayer, where up to four players on Meta Quest 3 and 3S can compete to rule the world.

The non-VR version of Civilization 7, currently available on PC and console for those with advanced access, has sparked discussions among players. Steam user reviews have highlighted concerns regarding the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features that fans have grown accustomed to. In response, Firaxis has committed to enhancing the UI, introducing team-based multiplayer modes, and increasing the variety of map types, among other improvements.

In an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the mixed reception of Civilization 7, emphasizing confidence that the "legacy Civ audience" will appreciate the game more as they spend more time with it. He described the game's early performance as "very encouraging."
