New Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition Set for November Release, Winds of Winter Awaited

by Sadie May 26,2025

George R.R. Martin recently delighted fans with a blog update, though it wasn't the eagerly awaited news on *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the upcoming illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. This edition will boast stunning artwork by Jeffrey R. McDonald and is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Fans can preorder this beautifully illustrated book from top retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This announcement is fantastic news for collectors of the illustrated editions. It's been five years since the last release, *A Storm of Swords*, in November 2020. The new edition of *A Feast for Crows* will also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin's blog promises a sneak peek at some of the interior illustrations this spring, ahead of the book's release. If you're new to collecting these special editions, the first three illustrated books in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?

For those still holding out for *The Winds of Winter*, the wait continues. The last update from Martin, in an interview from December 2024, hinted that he might not finish the book in his lifetime. This followed his November 2023 statement that he had already penned 1,100 pages. While disappointing for fans who've waited nearly 14 years, there remains a glimmer of hope that the series might be completed by someone else. With the fourth illustrated edition on the horizon, it appears the first five special editions will be completed before *The Winds of Winter* sees the light of day.
