Garena Free City, the latest addition to Garena's diverse portfolio, is now open for pre-registration on both iOS and Android devices across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa. If you've been eagerly awaiting the next installment in a certain renowned series, Garena Free City might just be the perfect interim entertainment.
Let's be straightforward: Garena Free City is Garena's rendition of the iconic Grand Theft Auto (GTA) experience, set to launch on June 30th. Whether this is a positive or negative development hinges on your personal taste. At first glance, it may appear to be just another mobile GTA clone, but a closer look reveals some intriguing possibilities.
For starters, the game boasts a comprehensive character customization system, reminiscent of The Sims, allowing detailed manipulation of individual features. Unlike the more realistic GTA style, Free City embraces a more whimsical approach with elements such as giant robots and summonable power-ups like deployable cover.
Bold & BrashHowever, it's clear that the game heavily draws inspiration from the allure of Grand Theft Auto Online, which might detract from its unique, more eccentric features that could otherwise set it apart.
Garena's timing for releasing Free City could be better, especially with Ananta, another major upcoming title, on the horizon. Ananta promises an expansive open world and quirky side quests, similar to Free City but with a distinct anime aesthetic. While some might be put off by Ananta's visual style, Free City's reluctance to fully embrace its unique elements is my primary concern.
