The eagerly anticipated GTA 6 mapping project has reached new heights following the release of Trailer 2, sparking excitement among its dedicated team of contributors. One of the project's key leaders shared with IGN, “It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year.”
With over 370 active members soon to surpass 400, the GTA 6 Mapping Discord community is buzzing as they dive into deciphering the wealth of information unveiled in the latest trailer. “It’s an information overload—it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year,” Garza, who manages the Discord server, explained to IGN. “We have so much new content to work on, and we’re just getting started.”
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord initiative took shape after the major leaks in September 2022 (which some speculate Rockstar subtly referenced at the beginning of Trailer 2). Their mission? To create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, relying initially on leaks and Trailer 1 from December 2023. The most recent version of the map, released by project leader DuPz0r in late March, is already outdated due to the abundance of new details in Trailer 2.

Rockstar’s latest trailer confirmed numerous plot details, introduced new characters, and revealed 70 never-before-seen GTA 6 screenshots. Additionally, the trailer showcased explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locales include Vice City, modeled after Miami, the tropical archipelago Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark along the state’s northern border.
Volunteers are meticulously analyzing every frame of the trailer, pinpointing the exact locations of what they see, and matching fictional spaces to their real-world equivalents to refine the GTA 6 map further. Once complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, which fans hope will offer the clearest preview yet of what to expect when GTA 6 finally launches in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release additional assets or gameplay footage before the official launch, the team will revisit their work. Only after the game’s release will they discover just how accurate their efforts have been compared to the final product.

Of course, the looming specter of Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, remains a concern. Last month, the modder behind a playable GTA 6 map recreation in GTA 5 halted work following a Take-Two takedown. While the mod was inspired by the GTA 6 mapping project, it was based on leaked materials.
When asked about Take-Two's potential reaction, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been ongoing for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I remain mindful of the possibility of future communication. Since we don’t explicitly feature leaked material in the map, I don’t think they’d take that down specifically. They likely recognize the project generates interest in the game, which isn’t entirely negative. If I ever receive a cease and desist, I would respect that decision. As we near a definitive map, it’s possible such notice could come in the future."
In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates on GTA 6, including everything we’ve uncovered so far and the fan theories emerging directly from Trailer 2.
