Helldivers 2 'Is Our Main Focus and Will Be for a Loooong Time,' Arrowhead Boss Insists: 'As Long as You Keep Playing and Buying Super Credits We Can Keep It Going'

Arrowhead, the developers behind the highly successful Helldivers 2, have recently addressed concerns from the player community about the potential shift of focus to their next project, codenamed "Game 6." Amidst the excitement of the full-scale Illuminate invasion launch, CEO Shams Jorjani took to the official Helldivers Discord to reassure fans about the studio's commitment to their current game.

Jorjani expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, stating, "The wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you FINE people Arrowhead's future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn't have otherwise. Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you." This statement, however, led to some concern among fans, with one suggesting that Arrowhead might be diverting significant resources away from Helldivers 2.

Quick to clarify, Jorjani emphasized, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time." He further elaborated on the future of Helldivers 2, stating that content updates would continue "as long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits," the game's virtual currency used to purchase Premium Warbonds. Jorjani acknowledged past challenges but affirmed a bright outlook due to the community's support.

In a follow-up comment, Jorjani responded to a fan's request for Arrowhead's next game to be available in all regions, saying, "The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we'll call 100% of those shots." This suggests that Arrowhead plans to self-fund Game 6, indicating it won't be a Sony-published title like Helldivers 2, and potentially not a direct sequel.

Discussing the development process, Jorjani contrasted Game 6's approach with the "rough" eight-year development of Helldivers 2. He highlighted the importance of nailing the core elements early on, explaining, "For the most part of the development cycle games plain suck... Very seldom are they truly fun from the get-go. And for Helldivers taking eight years to make it was rough for the longest time. But it came together in the end. The ONLY way to know is to playtest playtest playtest. For our next game we're doing things in a much smarter way and nailing a lot of the core s\*\*t early on (as you should) then make the rest."

These comments align with previous statements from Arrowhead developers who have expressed a desire for Helldivers 2 to remain a long-term project. It's worth noting that Helldivers 2 has achieved remarkable success, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, with 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks. Despite challenges such as the reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, review-bomb campaigns, and ongoing community debates over game balance, Arrowhead's commitment remains strong.

Alex Bolle, the production director on Helldivers 2, recently told IGN, "we want it to be around for years and years and years to come." He elaborated on the team's motivation to stay true to the Helldivers 2 fantasy while continuously innovating, stating, "The more we figure out how to thrive in a live environment... the more we can let creativity loose on new systems that we would've never thought about a year ago when we released."

Recent leaks, including one from PlayStation itself, hint at the upcoming addition of Super Earth as a playable map, further expanding the game's universe as the Illuminate threat reaches our home planet. This development underscores Arrowhead's dedication to keeping Helldivers 2 fresh and engaging for its dedicated player base.
