Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Guide: Friends and Random Teams

Hyper Light Breaker, the 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a key new feature: multiplayer. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and how to join random online matches.

Playing Hyper Light Breaker with Friends

To play co-op with friends, you'll need to create a private multiplayer room. From the Cursed Outpost hub, interact with the counter to the left of Pherus Bit (near the Outpost entrance).

This opens the Multiplayer menu. Select "Create Breaker Team." Enable "Password Required" and set a password. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, and Steam are supported). The game supports three-player teams.

Friends receive invitations via the "Invitations" tab in their Multiplayer menu. If not in-game, they can join using the invitation link. Alternatively, your team might appear in the "Join Breaker Team" list, allowing them to join directly.

Once your friends join, you're ready for co-op gameplay!

Random Online Matchmaking

If you lack friends playing Hyper Light Breaker, you can join public groups. In the Cursed Outpost's Multiplayer menu, choose "Join Breaker Team," then scroll down and select "Join Random Public Breaker Team."

The game will find an available public team (without a password) and place you in it. After a brief load, you'll join the host's game.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the Multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost. A "Disconnect" option will appear; select it to return to your solo game. Alternatively, simply quitting the game will also end the session.
