In *The First Berserker: Khazan*, mastering defense can be your ticket to victory. Monitoring your stamina is crucial, as constant attacks can lead to your downfall. Instead, using well-timed defensive maneuvers can exhaust your enemies, allowing you to strike back effectively. If you're eager to learn how to utilize Counterattack and Reflection in *The First Berserker: Khazan*, this guide is for you.

Counterattack is one of the earliest defensive skills you'll unlock in the game. While you can guard or dodge most attacks with perfect timing, there's a special type of attack called a Burst Attack that you can't counter with Brink Guard. Burst Attacks are powerful moves that deal significant stamina and health damage. You'll know an enemy is about to use one when a flashing symbol appears on the screen, accompanied by a unique sound effect. This is your signal to prepare for a Counterattack.
To execute a Counterattack, use the inputs L1+Circle/LB+B. Timing is critical here; it's not just about pressing the buttons. You need to align the Counterattack animation with the moment the enemy's attack lands. Mastering this timing will come with practice.
A successful Counterattack not only prevents damage but also fully restores your stamina and staggers the enemy, providing you with a window to deal significant damage. Keep this move ready for enemies with Burst Attacks, like The Viper, to gain an upper hand in battle.

While Brink Guard is effective for avoiding damage, Reflection offers a unique advantage by allowing you to deal damage while protecting Khazan. This skill becomes essential when facing tougher bosses later in the game, as it provides a window for retaliation when executed correctly.
To perform a Reflection, press L1+Triangle/LB+Y. This initiates a short animation where Khazan swings his weapon at the target. The trick to a perfect Reflection is to time the swing so it connects with the enemy's attack animation. A successful hit will cause substantial stamina damage and stun the enemy. Upgrades to Reflection can add health damage and shorten the animation, making it more precise.
However, missing a Reflection can be costly, resulting in health and significant stamina damage, putting you at a disadvantage. Remember, Reflection can't be used against Burst Attacks or grabs, so choose your moments wisely.
Now you're well-versed in using Counterattack and Reflection in *The First Berserker: Khazan*. For more tips and strategies, be sure to check out The Escapist.
