June may still feel like a distant horizon for many Magic: The Gathering fans, especially those eagerly anticipating the arrival of the upcoming Final Fantasy-themed set. However, Wizards of the Coast has just released an exciting first look at more than a dozen brand-new cards from the set, offering a much-needed glimpse into what’s to come. Among the revealed characters are iconic names such as Sephiroth, Yuffie, Cecil, Garland, and Chaos—each bringing their own unique flair and power to the game.
This exclusive preview not only showcases a variety of new gameplay mechanics and legendary creatures but also highlights several alternate art versions of key cards. Alongside these, we get to see updated visuals for previously announced commander cards including Tidus, Cloud, Y’shtola, and Terra. The reveal includes powerful legendary figures like Sephiroth and Cecil, as well as a fresh take on the Food token art. Additional art variations have been shown for fan-favorite cards such as Stilzkin, Moogle Merchant; Sin, Spira’s Punishment; and Summon: Shiva. You can view the full collection in the gallery below:

Beyond individual cards, today’s reveal gives us a deeper understanding of some of the set’s standout features. One of the most exciting additions is the inclusion of Summons—an innovative twist on Magic’s first-ever Saga creatures, which players can call into battle for powerful effects (check out Summon: Shiva in the image gallery). Double-faced cards also return in this set, with one notable example being Cecil, who appears in two distinct forms: Dark Knight and Redeemed Paladin.
In total, the Final Fantasy set will include over 100 legendary creature cards, with 55 of them being borderless legendary cards. Some of these feature artwork from beloved artists who have contributed to the Final Fantasy series throughout its history.
Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy set is designed to be fully draftable and will be legal in Standard format upon release. It will launch alongside four preconstructed Commander decks, each themed around a different Final Fantasy title: Final Fantasy VI, VII, X, and XIV. Each deck contains 100 cards, blending newly introduced Final Fantasy-themed cards with existing MTG cards that now feature exclusive Final Fantasy-inspired artwork. The official release date is set for June 13, so mark your calendars and prepare for a magical crossover experience unlike any other.
