Marvel Rivals Ban Risk: Players Edge Too Close

NetEase Games Issues Warning: Marvel Rivals Modders Face Potential Bans

NetEase Games, developer and publisher of the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players using modifications (mods). The company explicitly stated that any form of modding, from cosmetic changes to performance-enhancing add-ons, violates the game's terms of service and risks permanent account bans.

This warning follows the release of Marvel Rivals Season 1, which introduced new heroes (Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four) alongside hero adjustments and, initially, a hidden anti-modding system. However, workarounds were quickly discovered and shared online, allowing players to bypass the system and implement various modifications, including one transforming Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy. These mods, despite the developer's efforts to counter them, remain available on platforms like Nexus Mods.

While NetEase Games hasn't publicly confirmed any bans related to modding yet, the company's position is firm: modding is against the rules and will be met with consequences. The long-term impact of this ongoing situation remains to be seen, particularly considering Marvel Rivals' recent nomination for Online Game of the Year at the DICE Awards 2025.

The situation highlights the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between developers and modders, with NetEase Games clearly drawing a line in the sand. The continued availability of certain mods, despite the potential for repercussions, suggests the challenge of effectively policing modifications in online games. The future will determine the extent to which NetEase Games enforces its ban policy.
