Marvel Rivals Donald Trump Mod Reportedly Banned

Summary

  • A Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals appears to have been banned due to sociopolitical issues, violating Nexus Mods rules.
  • NetEase Games, developer of Marvel Rivals, hasn't responded to issues over character mods.

A controversial Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals has reportedly been banned. Since launching nearly a month ago, Marvel Rivals has attracted millions of players worldwide, all eager to master various Marvel heroes and climb the ranks.

As a hero shooter, Marvel Rivals delivers an engaging experience where players can devise clever strategies and leverage unique character interactions to secure victories. Meanwhile, some players have been enhancing their gameplay by utilizing Marvel Rivals mods, which alter the heroes' models. These mods range from incorporating different skins from Marvel Comics and movies to overlaying Fortnite models of Captain America and Spider-Man onto the default units.

Recently, a Nexus Mods user uploaded a Donald Trump mod for one of Marvel Rivals' popular Vanguards, Captain America. This mod quickly circulated on social media, with some users even seeking out players with a Joe Biden mod to queue up together. However, Nexus Mods seems to have banned and removed the Trump mod, as attempts to access it now result in an error page stating it cannot be found on the site. Similarly, the Biden mod is also unsearchable on the website.

Why Was the Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Removed?

Back in 2020, Nexus Mods released a blog post stating that it would ban mods related to sociopolitical issues in the United States and encouraged users to report any mods that violated this rule. This announcement coincided with the highly contested election between then-incumbent President Trump and his challenger Biden, who ultimately won.

On social media, many Marvel Rivals fans were not surprised by the ban, often citing that Captain America's model was not suitable for Trump. However, a minority expressed dissatisfaction with Nexus Mods' decision to ban any political imagery from its site. This is not the first instance of Trump being featured in a video game mod. While many such mods have likely been removed from Nexus Mods, mods featuring the controversial figure are still available for games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2.

On the other hand, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games has not addressed any issues concerning the use of character mods in the game, particularly those depicting controversial or political figures. As a relatively new game, NetEase has been focused on managing various challenges, such as fixing gameplay bugs and resolving false bans on Marvel Rivals players.
