"Mastering Monster Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds"

Slaying monsters is thrilling, but if you're aiming to collect every last part, capturing them is an essential skill in Monster Hunter Wilds. Here’s everything you need to know about successfully capturing monsters, from preparation to execution.

Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing a monster is a straightforward process that adds a strategic layer to your hunts. Instead of delivering the final blow, you weaken the target and use tools to subdue it.

First, you’ll need to reduce the monster’s health significantly. When it’s weakened, several visual cues will appear: your Palico will announce it, a skull icon will appear over the monster’s name on the minimap, and the creature itself will visibly limp or drool—clear signs it’s ready for capture.

Once the monster is in this vulnerable state, deploy a trap. You can choose between a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap. Place the trap on the ground in a spot where the monster is likely to pass, then lure it into position. When the monster triggers the trap, it will be immobilized for a short duration—this is your chance to act.

Immediately throw Tranq Bombs at the trapped monster. In most cases, one or two Tranq Bombs will be enough to successfully capture it. Alternatively, if you're using ranged weapons or specific melee builds, you can craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades for a more efficient approach.

Upon successful capture, the quest concludes and you’ll be returned to Base Camp, where you can claim your rewards—including rare materials only obtainable through capturing.

How to Get Traps and Tranq Items

While your Palico may occasionally set traps during a hunt, it's always best to come prepared with your own supplies.

There are two main trap types:

  • Pitfall Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Net (crafted using Spiderwebs or Ivy).
  • Shock Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.

For tranquilizer items:

  • Craft a Tranq Bomb using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom.
  • Combine Tranq Bombs with Throwing Knives to create Tranq Blades, or load them into compatible ammo slots as Tranq Ammo.

Stock up before heading into the field to ensure you’re never caught unprepared.
