Metaphor: ReFantazio has a chance to become a series - game director

Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.

Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio's future as a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are no current plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for Atlus.

While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next project. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the company's highest concurrent player count to date.

The game's peak concurrent player count reached 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
