Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Cuts Charging Time in Half

by Nicholas Jun 22,2025

It will take nearly half the time to fully charge your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller compared to the original model.

As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo recently released the official technical specifications for the upgraded $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller. According to the details, it takes approximately three and a half hours to fully charge the controller—assuming you're using either the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or a USB-C charging cable. This is a significant improvement over the six-hour charging time of the original Pro Controller.

The best part? That faster charging doesn’t affect battery life. The new Switch 2 Pro Controller still delivers an impressive up to 40-hour battery life on a single charge—just like its predecessor. In addition to quicker charging, the updated controller features a new C button, two extra GL/GR buttons on the underside, and has a slightly more compact and lightweight design than the original version.

If you’re not ready to let go of your original controller, good news: Nintendo confirmed that the original Pro Controller will remain compatible with the new Switch 2 system.

Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct event earlier this month. While U.S. pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin in early April, delays due to tariff concerns pushed the release date to April 24.

Despite the delay, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 console and games will remain at $449.99, but most accessories—including the Switch 2 Pro Controller, which increased from $80 to $85—have seen a slight price bump.
