Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has unfortunately cancelled the physical release of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This decision, announced via X (formerly Twitter), cites technical challenges related to multilingual European localization.
A String of Postponements Leads to Cancellation
The physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced repeated delays, shifting to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. This series of setbacks ultimately resulted in the cancellation. While Meridiem Games offered limited explanation regarding the technical difficulties, pre-orders on platforms like Amazon were impacted, with customers receiving notifications of the continued delays and eventual cancellation.
This news has understandably caused disappointment among European fans, especially considering it would have been the first official release in Spanish and other European languages. While digital versions remain accessible, obtaining a physical copy now requires importing a US version.
About Omori
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he embodies the persona of Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving past merchandise. The cancellation of the European physical release leaves a significant gap for fans eagerly anticipating a localized physical copy.
