Rumors are swirling that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 might hit the shelves by the end of 2025. Additionally, whispers suggest a next-gen upgrade is on the horizon for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. According to GameReactor, insiders "close to Rockstar" have hinted that a Switch 2 version of Rockstar's beloved Wild West adventure is in the works, accompanied by a "next-gen upgrade patch" designed to enhance the gaming experience on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S). While details remain sparse, GameReactor's sources indicate that both the port and the upgrade could be available as soon as later this year.
These rumors are supported by similar reports from Nintenduo, which suggests that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might launch within Take-Two's current financial year, ending on March 31, 2026. It's still up in the air whether this port will be digital-only or if a physical edition will also be available.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 first graced our screens in 2018, we at IGN hailed it as a "masterpiece," awarding it a perfect 10/10 score. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised it as "a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."
The possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 arriving on the Switch 2 might not shock many, especially after Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform during a Q&A session following the company's latest financial results. Zelnick highlighted Nintendo's improved support for third-party publishers this time around, saying, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform. Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two is set to release Civilization 7 on June 5, coinciding with the launch day of the Switch 2, alongside titles from the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (though specific games and release dates are yet to be confirmed), and Borderlands 4 on September 12. These choices aren't surprising, considering Take-Two's history of publishing these franchises on the Nintendo Switch. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that the door is wide open for other releases, particularly from Take-Two's back catalog. While GTA 6 might not make the cut, classics like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be in the running.
