2024 Amazon Sales Crowned Meta Quest 3S as Top-Selling Console

The Meta Quest 3S unexpectedly outperformed established gaming giants like Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, securing the title of Amazon's best-selling console in 2024. This remarkable achievement is even more impressive considering its October launch.

The Quest 3S's budget-friendly price point, coupled with its standalone functionality (no need for a powerful PC or console), and a compelling game library, proved a winning combination. While VR gaming remains niche, the Quest 3S's accessibility clearly resonated with consumers.

Amazon's 2024 best-seller list places the Meta Quest 3S at #11 overall in the video game category, significantly ahead of the PlayStation 5 Slim (#17) and Nintendo Switch (#53). Notably, Xbox consoles didn't feature in the top 80, though peripherals did. Only a Nintendo microSDXC card and the PlayStation DualSense controller ranked higher. Even Sony's PlayStation VR2 failed to make the list.

VR Accessibility Takes Center Stage

The Quest 3S's untethered design and standalone operation are key differentiators. Unlike tethered VR headsets, it offers freedom of movement without requiring additional hardware investments.

Interestingly, the discontinued Meta Quest 2 also ranked (#27), suggesting price sensitivity within the VR market. The absence of the original Meta Quest 3 from the top 80 further supports this observation.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 slated for a 2025 release, the future of console sales remains uncertain. However, the 2024 results strongly indicate a growing interest in affordable, accessible VR technology.
