Stellar Blade, the debut non-gacha title from Shift Up in the US, has earned widespread acclaim for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning visuals, and captivating soundtrack. It's also known for its provocative character design. In our review, IGN's Mitchell Saltzman praised Stellar Blade for its "gorgeous and well-crafted action game" nature, highlighting the "rock solid fundamentals" of its Sekiro-inspired combat system. However, he noted that the game's story and characters could use more depth, and some of its RPG elements, like the sidequests, felt repetitive and unrewarding. Despite these critiques, the game's action and exploration elements shine brightly. IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally felt it deserved a higher score. While it didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release, it's definitely a title to watch.

Stellar Blade is a technically demanding game, and I recommend running it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. For those lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode, achieving excellent frame rates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players will be able to enjoy Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or more, with smoother gameplay. You'll notice an improvement in grain and detail in the game in PSSR upscale mode. Plus, the HFR (high framerate) option is supported, allowing you to enjoy a fluid gaming experience at 80fps (120hz display support required)."
